So, back to gender aspect of Russian nouns. You can recognize gender in most of cases easily just looking at the end letter of the word (it's important to take nominative forms for that work). And keep in mind that _all_ Russian nouns have gender, animate and inanimate .

There are 10 parts of speech in Russian language. Little by little you will know them all.  1. Noun (существи́тельное): дом, сад, мечта 2. Pronoun (местоиме́ние): я, ты, они, вы, мой, чей, наш... 3. Ajective (прилага́тельное): хороший (дом), плохая (погода), прекрасная (картина)... 4. Verb (глаго́л): читать, делать, говорить, петь 5. Adverb (наре́чие): хорошо, плохо, отлично, превосходно 6. Numeral (числи́тельное): один, десять, сто, миллион 7. Preposition (предло́г): в, на 8. Conjunction (сою́з): и, а 9. Particle (части́ца): не 10.
